Booth Extravaganza
We have been busy building controversial booths!
At Minnesota Millwork & Fixtures, we build booths in every shape, size, and color. On any given day, you will find at least a half dozen booths in the shop. But did you know our company would have been considered “wicked, bad, dirty” just for building booths?
While many of us love booths, restaurant booths have a lengthy and controversial history. WHAT?! Booths were popular as private eating spaces in the 1920s. Customers preferred their comfort instead of tables and chairs. Booths were placed along the perimeters of restaurants. Their height and the fact that many were covered with curtains sparked speculation and outrage! What was going on behind those curtains in the booths? This train of thought raised questions and speculation. There was once even a law that only parties of 1 or 6 or more could sit in a booth. How about the Police Chief who convinced his City Council that booths were the most significant factor in the “degradation of moral character”?
Even though the use of booth seating started with a slightly shady, questionable past, they have withstood the test of time. Today, booths and dinettes are more than commercial seating; they are used in people’s homes as design features, comfortable entertaining areas, and in almost every restaurant as a “standard” seating fixture. So I guess one could say we have been busy contributing to the degradation of society by building some cool booths for our clients. And thank goodness we have grown with age and wisdom! Oh, how far we have come!
Check out our upholstered furniture, from waiting benches to circle booths; there is nothing controversial about them, just well-built high-quality products!
